Back in my college days, my friends and I liked playing an idle game while waiting for the bus in the bus stop. We would observe the passers-by and guess all we could about them. These details could be the college they studied, the course they were studying etc. Inevitably, every time we saw a boy and a girl together we would try guess if they were just friends, boyfriend and girlfriend, brother and sister, friends but on the way to something more, just started dating, etc. Yeah, yeah we were that intellectual. Thanks.
Recently while commuting back from work, I realized I was subconsciously playing this game. This time I was observing two women. One was young and the other was older. The younger one was married so I was looking for clues to guess if they were mother and daughter or mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. The older woman was trying to descend from the platform onto the road. The younger woman extended her hand to support the older woman. However, the older woman refused the offer and struggled to land on the road. Hmm, there must have been a million possibilities for their behavior but what do you think I concluded? Yeah, yeah shout bias. I realized that the subjects of my observation these days follow this pattern. Funny how age, situation, etc affect your perceptions.
Funny game :) ..By the way, were those two women related?
